The Adventist Heart Institute has a long history of innovations. From the first cardiac catheterization to new diagnostic imaging approaches and treatments for heart disease provide a legacy of “firsts” in cardiac care. We were the first in the North Bay area to perform coronary angiogram, coronary angioplasty, percutaneous thoracic aortic aneurysms repair and coronary bypass surgery, as well as the first to offer minimally invasive cardiac bypass surgery and percutaneous thoracic aortic aneurysm repair. Adventist Heart & Vascular Institute Performs First TMVR in the North Bay

The heart valve team at the Adventist Heart & Vascular Institute at Adventist Health St. Helena successfully completed the North Bay’s first Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair (TMVR) procedure, a less invasive alternative that offers hope for patients with severe degenerative mitral valve regurgitation who were previously faced with only one treatment option—open heart surgery. The first procedure was performed in the cardiac catheterization lab at the hospital on May 9.

Arrhythmia Center Presents Atrial Fibrillation Seminar

Doctors from the Adventist Heart Institute’s St. Helena Arrhythmia Center presented a seminar April 24 on atrial fibrillation (A-Fib), an electrical disorder of the heart that causes an irregular and often rapid heart rate. The condition can be caused by high blood pressure or abnormal hearts valves, or have no apparent cause.
