New Vascular Lab Enhances Technology and Capabilities for Vascular Procedures

Adventist Health St. Helena has opened a new vascular lab with two dedicated procedure rooms to expand its capability to diagnose and treat peripheral vascular, vein and arterial diseases. The medical center has installed the latest non-invasive vascular imaging technology in the lab to bring state-of-the-art care to the Napa Valley.

The vascular lab provides a dedicated space for a broad range of non-invasive diagnostic services of the vascular system, which is the system of arteries and veins outside of the heart that carry blood throughout the body. Adventist Heart & Vascular Institute physicians can use ultrasound and duplex imaging technology available in the lab to diagnose and evaluate vascular disease. Non-invasive treatments for vein and arterial conditions can also take place in the vascular lab using image guidance for optimal precision.

“This is one more step toward providing a comprehensive approach to heart and vascular care,” said Steven Herber, MD, president of Adventist Health St. Helena. “Opening a vascular lab with the latest imaging means our highly-skilled physicians and vascular technologists will have the tools they need to provide the most advanced vascular care, which ultimately will provide our patients with the best outcomes.”

The vascular lab will be used to diagnose conditions such as carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial and venous conditions and abdominal vascular concerns. Procedures in the lab may include venous ablation for varicose veins, sclerotherapy procedures and other innovative treatments for non-healing wounds/ulcers and veinous insufficiency.

“With the addition of the vascular lab, we are able to expand our vascular capabilities, including diagnosis for arterial and venous conditions and comprehensive vein care,” said John Laird, MD, interventional cardiologist and vascular specialist at the Adventist Heart & Vascular Institute. “The vascular lab gives us access to powerful diagnostic technology that can lead to faster, more effective diagnosis and treatment.”
