Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair (TMVR)

Minimally invasive treatment for leaky valve disease

Transcatether Mitral Valve Repair TMVR) is a less invasive treatment option for patients with degenerative mitral valve regurgitation. If you are not a candidate for surgery because of other cardiac conditions, age, previous surgery or chronic health conditions, this less-invasive treatment option may be a solution.

Unlike surgery, this procedure does not require opening the chest and temporarily stopping the heart. Instead, doctors access your heart through a vein in your leg to repair your mitral valve. A specially designed clip called a Mitraclip is inserted through a catheter and grasps the mitral valve leaflets, bringing them together and closing the “leak,” allowing blood to pump efficiently through the heart and to the body.

Although not all situations are suitable for the TAVR approach, when appropriate it offers a number of advantages:

  • Minimally invasive
  • Significantly less pain than open heart surgery
  • Shorter hospital stay than open heart surgery
  • Life-saving option for high risk patients

Clinical data from patients who underwent the TMVR procedure demonstrate an immediate reduction of mitral regurgitation. You should experience significant improvement in your symptoms of mitral regurgitation and quality of life soon after your procedure.

Start living. Heart healthy.
